We are looking for an awesome Chinese teacher for our language school specialising in teaching adults. At China Unbound, we believe that learning Chinese is something to be enjoyed, not something to be endured. Our students include corporate teams, business owners and professionals who share a desire to learn Chinese. This is a great opportunity to grow your skills and to be part of an exciting enterprise as it develops.

The role

  • You will be delivering fun, engaging Mandarin/Cantonese lessons to adults
  • The number of lessons you are given will depend on the work available but tends to increase as your timetable builds up gradually. (e.g. 1 x 1.5 hour class per week, building up to at least 3 lessons per week).
  • You will need another part-time job to supplement your income and be able to commit to regular weekly sessions
  • All teaching materials are provided, with room for personalisation for each class by you
  • Full training and support will be provided

Hours/Location

  • You need to be able to commit to at least 2-3 lessons each week (3 to 4.5 hours) and be able to work for at least 3 consecutive terms (30 teaching weeks)
  • Typical hours: evenings 5 pm to 8.30 pm, daytime 9 am to 5 pm, weekends 9 am to 5 pm – please don't apply if you can't do these hours
  • You need to be able to attend Online and In-Person lessons (we are based in Southwark/Blackfrairs, London)

You will have these important 'soft skills'

  • A strong command of English is essential
  • A confident communicator, comfortable in directing a class of professionals
  • Love helping people, patient and approachable
  • Have the empathy and soft skills to teach adults (e.g. correct without causing embarrassment, instruct without being commanding)

Education & Experience

  • Education in language, teaching, or linguistics ideal
  • 2 years or more UK working experience (education is preferred)
  • Teaching experience is preferable, though having a strong command of English and an interest in teaching is more important
  • You speak standard Mandarin / Cantonese
  • An interest in business and good business acumen to contribute ideas to continue expanding our school is highly desired
  • Chinese cultural, crafts or historical knowledge would also be helpful

Rate

· £20-29 per hour depending on experience
