The Clinical Psychology development post is a role for a newly qualified psychologist our team. It provides assessment and intervention for children and young people who have complex, moderate to severe difficulties.

As it is a relatively large service the post provides a good overall grounding in working with children and young people with many opportunities to develop specific intervention skills and expertise over time.

The role will provide a qualified specialist clinical psychology service to clients of the Core CAMHS team by providing specialist psychological assessment , formulation and treatment of mental health difficulties.

To offer advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and other non-professional carers. To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the teams' policies and procedures. To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service.

To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the post holder's professional and service manager(s).

~ To contribute to the development and dissemination of best practice in psychology across the service, by continuing to develop the skills of a reflexive and reflective scientist practitioner, taking part in regular professional supervision and appraisal and maintaining an active engagement with current developments in the field of clinical psychology and related disciplines.

~ To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society and Trust policies and procedures.

~ To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to both the specific client group and mental health.


NHFT is an integrated primary care and mental health Trust, providing physical, mental health and specialty services in both hospital settings and out in the community.

Because we put the person at the centre of all we do, we focus on delivering care that is as easy to access as possible.

This means many of our services can be provided at home, work or in schools.
We also provide health services to various prisons and detention centres in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology, as accredited by the BPS.

band 8a} Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice. Evidence of Continuing Professional Development as recommended by the BPS. {band 8a} Formal training in supervision of other psychologists. Registration with the Health Care Professions Council


Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings.

Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.

Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.

Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.

band 8a} Demonstrate further specialist training/experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a specialist clinical psychologist over a minimum of 18 months, or an alternative agreed by the Head of Child Clinical Psychology.

{band 8a} Formal training in supervision of other psychologists.
