Due to service expansion we are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic, motivated and articulate specialist practitioner in Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to influence others.


The post holder will be a key player in our IPC agenda and work in collaboration with Directorate leaders across the organisation in ensuring robust IPC measures and governance processes are in place and embedded in practice.


The post holder will develop a quality, proactive and evidence based IPC service, to prevent and reduce the incidence of infections and implement systems to enhance patient and staff safety across the organisation, acting as a role model at all times.

The ability to manage own workload is essential for this role. You must have commitment to influence change and drive progress in the challenging and changing speciality of Infection Prevention.


The post holder will be responsible for providing specialist IPC advice and support to staff and teams working both in the acute and community services to ensure adherence to good practice in IPC.

The post holder will be responsible for the daily operational delivery of a complex IPC programme. Including provision of specialist advice, outbreak management, undertaking post-infection reviews, quality improvements projects of clinical areas and practice, surveillance, education, project management that drives improvement in patient care through learning and support for staff, patients, and visitors in order to maintain a safe clean environment

In conjunction with the lead nurse develop evidence based guidelines, procedures and protocols for the prevention and control of infection.


In collaboration with the lead nurse ensure that the Trusts IPC policies and strategies are in keeping with local and national strategies and policy.


In conjunction with the lead nurse, take responsibility for producing and reviewing IPC guidelines that are evidence based and reflect current knowledge and trends in infection control.

Oversee the implementation of IPC guidelines and policies throughout the trust ensuring that compliance is monitored.


Working with the wider IPC team establish and maintain effective surveillance systems monitoring alert infections and detecting outbreaks of infection.

Analyse and collate surveillance data on infection and ensure that this is recorded and communicated appropriately.


Identify outbreaks of infection within Trust facilities and ensure that they are managed in accordance with Trust policies for the management and control of infection.


Be responsible for the identification of sources and trends in infection patterns and ensure that those who take decisions on clinical matters are fully informed of this.


Provide highly specialised advice on IPC measures to all staff within the Trust, patients, their relatives and members of the public as required.


Advice on the planning, implementation and evaluation of care for patients with infection and those who may be exposed to infection.
