Job information

12 Month Secondment / Fixed Term Contract

Can you track financial performance and provide forecasting and analysis?

Do you offer guidance, insight, and expertise to help leaders make key decisions?

We want to be the water company people want to be supplied by and want to work for

If you join us as Assistant Management Accountant on a fixed term contract, your work will contribute to better business performance by closely collaborating with business leaders to track financial performance and guide decision making.

You'll handle the month-end process for specific areas of the business, including accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet account reconciliations. This involves reviewing month-end results, communicating any concerns, and providing insight on performance issues. You'll create monthly performance reports and support managers with budgeting and forecasting and work with auditors in an ethical manner.

We have some great opportunities in the pipeline with the chance to support the delivery of a new finance system and the development and implementation of our next 5-year business plan. Therefore, there is the possibility that the secondment could be extended.

You'll grow a career with a meaningful purpose. Be you, belong and be valued.

Come to work to be safe, valued, and trusted. We'll encourage you to create and pursue new opportunities for personal growth. A place to be the real you, build deeper connections and enjoy a sense of belonging. Be invested in helping us to create a sustainable water supply for now, and in the future.

What will you be accountable for?

Manage the month end process, accruals, and prepayments for specific areas of the business and of the profit and loss. Undertake periodic balance sheet account reconciliations, highlighting risks and opportunities. Review month end result for any concerns / issues / significant variances and use influence to confidently communicate the impact and be a sounding board for associated discussions. Understand stakeholder needs in producing and presenting a monthly performance pack for each area of responsibility, highlighting any performance issues, concerns, trends and raising any questions to ensure performance is put in context of the wider business performance. Apply business partnering skills to build trust and work collaboratively and assertively with other areas of the business to facilitate productive business discussions and contribute to the organisation's performance. Provide guidance and support to budget holders through the budget and forecasting cycles to ensure accurate and owned budgets and forecasts. Engage ethically with financial auditors and provide audit analysis and commentary as required.

What do you bring to the role?

Ideally a part qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or AAT Level 4). Could also be qualified by experience with strong industry experience. Experience in a similar sized organisation would be beneficial. Can demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of key accounting principles such as accruals, prepayments, and materiality. Exceptional analytical skills to effectively interpret data and communicate findings clearly. Ability to adopt a collaborative and assertive style with others. Can confidently challenging others and evaluate proposals critically. Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple deadlines within a fast-paced finance department. An ethical approach and the ability to exercise professional judgement. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

What can you expect from us?

Excellent Stakeholder pension scheme, up to 10% employer contribution. 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays, increasing to 6 weeks with length of service. Flexible annual leave policy to buy or sell holiday leave. Paid volunteering days. Cycle to work scheme. Health cash plan. Life assurance. Wellbeing related benefits. Electric Vehicle salary sacrifice scheme.
