If you are looking to develop your clinical or counselling psychology skills working with older adults who are experiencing severe and enduring psychological difficulties this is an exciting opportunity to join the B& D OAMHT. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and has an understanding of the challenges that older adults experience and how these impacts on their well-being. It is a part-time (0.50 wte). There may be opprotunities for additional hours within other NELFT psychological services.

You will be based in Broad Street Centre in Dagenham and will be supported and supervised by the Clinical Lead of Older Adult Psychology. You will be part of the well-established multi-disciplinary service. Other psychologists at Broad Street include the Trust wide lead for Clinical Health Psychology, the Memory Service psychologist, and trainees from clinical or counselling psychology courses. You will also have links with psychologists in other services, such as the inpatient wards, IMPART personality disorders, secondary care psychology and Talking Therapies.

The Trust supports continuing professional development with a range of in-house trainings and opportunities. Recent examples have included specialist trainings in ACT and EMDR. This post has been an opportunity for newly qualified psychologists to establish and consolidate their skills post-qualification. The vacancy is arising due to the current postholder moving onto an 8a position within the Trust.

Main duties of the job
  • Carrying out professionally based duties and responsibilities in the following areas: clinical practice, service development, teaching and training, work with other agencies, consultancy and/or applied research and service evaluation.
  • Supporting the professional development of psychological services through the supervision of other qualified psychological practitioners, trainee psychologists, and assistant psychologists.
  • Keeping up to date with developments in psychology and psychological therapies, especially as they apply to older people, in order to maintain the highest possible standard of skills and knowledge, and to disseminate these appropriately
  • Advising colleagues in psychological matters within the post-holder's area of expertise and to participate in service development programmes.
  • Raising the profile of psychological approaches in human health problems and promoting an holistic biopsychosocial model of service delivery

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of 4,313 and a maximum payment of 5,436 per annum pro rata).   • Doctoral level or equivalent training in clinical psychology (BPS approved courses or training)
  • Current Professional Registration with the HCPC as a practitioner psychologist - clinical
  • Some experience of working with older people
