The School
The Essential English Centre is a privately owned, boutique English language school located in Manchester city centre.

We are accredited by the British Council and we offer a range of English language courses as well as accommodation and other language travel services for international students aged 16+.

Open all year round, the school is a fast-paced environment with new student arrivals each week.

Students can study from 2 weeks up to one year and student numbers currently reach up to 130, with the busy peak season in June, July and August.

We pride ourselves on our friendly, professional, and personalised approach to customer service, where students feel at home and welcomed as part of The EEC family, all while maintaining an excellent student experience.


The Role


The Accommodation Coordinator position is a key role within the school, with overall responsibility for all aspects of the schools accommodation provision.

You will be responsible for placing students in homestay and student residence accommodation, and will be the main point of contact for all student accommodation queries from pre-arrival and throughout the duration of the booking.

Alongside this, you will be responsible for sourcing new, good quality homestay hosts throughout the year, as well as for ensuring the school has year-round access to high quality student residences across Manchester city centre.

As well as working independently, you will work and liaise with the other members of the operations team to ensure excellent service delivery.

You will be an important, visible and customer-facing member of staff on a day-to-day basis.


Alongside these duties, and along with other staff members, you will play a role in offering welfare support to students as required.

This may include welfare support in relation to accommodation, or other areas as designated by the Operations Manager.

Key areas of responsibility:

Accommodation:

  • To manage the school's accommodation provision (homestay and student residence). This includes allocating students to the most appropriate accommodation and, in conjunction with the Student Services team, ensuring full arrangements have been made and communicated to the student/agent in advance of arrival.
  • To proactively manage student arrivals in a timely manner, working alongside the Student Services team.
  • To be responsible for inspecting new homestay accommodation, deciding on their suitability, and adding them to the database
  • To proactively manage and maintain a positive relationship with hosts.
  • To recruit new hosts in a targeted and consistent manner throughout the year.
  • To coordinate payments for homestays on a weekly basis
  • To deal sensitively and promptly with any accommodation issues and complaints
  • To ensure all compliance is strictly adhered to at all times
  • Where relevant, to supervise other members of the team and ensure they are following all processes and procedures effectively
  • To proactively manage the host database, ensuring the school CRM and homestay files database are up to date and accurate.

Safeguarding and Welfare

  • To be trained to minimum Level 2 safeguarding.
  • To be familiar with the schools safeguarding policy
  • To be aware of and, under the direction of the Operations Manager, take action on any safeguarding issues, particularly in relation to accommodation.
  • To be a nominated First Aid Officer within the school
  • To be a nominated Fire Marshall within the school
  • To offer welfare support to students across a range of issues as required and under the direction of the Operations Manager.
  • To contribute positively and significantly to the wider extracurricular and pastoral life of the school
  • To be compliant with all UK laws and British Council guidance
  • To take part in the schools outside of hours phone rota.

Compliance and Accreditations

  • To be proactive in ensuring accommodation documentation is relevant, including prearrival information, is clearlycommunicated and up to date.
  • To play a key role in accreditation inspections, including the British Council.
  • To work with management in ensuring the regular updating of compliance processes, policies and documentation. This includes offering ideas, solutions and updates where relevant.

  • To be able to use initiative, with an independent, solutionsfocused mindset
