ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Firmware Engineer will work within the electronics team to develop a range of hair care and beauty appliances for a successful and growing company which preserves the original dynamic and start-up atmosphere and is backed by one of the largest private equity companies in the world.

The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and will take a high-level ownership of their technical work. They will be delivery-focussed and take direct responsibility for their output. They will generate high quality work as a matter of course.

This position will be based from our R&D facility in Cambridge.

JOB ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead new firmware development projects with first-hand involvement in specification, implementation, and test.
  • Improve the internal software development processes by working with the Head of Electronics to refine and introduce methodology and structure.
  • Work closely with other parts of the business to drive projects through the development lifecycle.
  • Develop, tune, & test control algorithms.
  • Work with hardware and project engineers to ensure the products operate as intended and comply with the design verification plan.
  • Investigate and solve complex functional issues (e.g. assist in complex root-cause analysis for product returns, etc).

REQUIREMENTS

  • An experienced firmware engineer with knowledge of embedded systems (microcontrollers) for high-volume consumer electronics or similar.
  • Proven track record of developing software in C to a high standard (bare-metal and/or RTOS).
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, Mathematics, or a related numerate discipline.
  • Requirements Capture.
  • Agile methodology and tools (e.g. Jira).
  • BLDC motor control.
  • I2C, SPI, BLE.
  • Knowledge of control algorithms / control theory.
