Locum Consultant in Infectious Diseases

London North West University Healthcare has one of the largest ID units in the UK, based at Ealing and Northwick Park Hospitals.

Due to the size and diversity of the local population and proximity to Heathrow, the trust is the busiest TB unit in the UK, a regional referral centre for MDR TB and imported infections, the North Outer West London site for HIV inpatient care and a treatment centre for viral hepatitis and has a highly successful ambulatory ID service including OPAT.


This post would join a consultant team with diverse interests and expertise sharing in both inpatient and outpatient care including a choice of speciality clinics (HIV, Tuberculosis, ambulatory ID, viral hepatitis).

The post holder will be based at Ealing, and would join the cross site on call ID rota, contribute to our highly rated undergraduate and postgraduate training as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer for Imperial College and will have the opportunity to contribute to our clinical research programme.


This appointment will also add to the current team of acute medicine and specialty physicians at Ealing and Northwick Park Hospital supporting Acute Medicine.

The acute medical team provides the on-call teams 24/7 and, addition, separate teams to cover Short Stay Acute Medical Unit and our award-winning Emergency Ambulatory Care Units.

The postholder will share the management of ID inpatients at Northwick Park for the duration of the placement. This involves twice weekly teaching ward rounds plus daily board rounds.


There will be 2-3 'clinic' based sessions including the Al McGregor's ID clinic which a mixture of ID including TB, Tuesday TB clinic and Wednesday TB clinic and You will be supported by a registrar in all clinics and Drs Whittington and Corrah in respective TB clinics.

In addition to ward round and clinic based DCCs the post will take part in radiology and Friday MDT and ward consults.


SPAs allocated during which the post holder will be expected to take part in undergraduate teaching, supervision of postgraduate trainees (SHO and registrar grades) and lead on areas of clinical governance for the department.

  • Central Middlesex Hospital: our planned care site, hosting a range of surgical and outpatient services and collocated with an urgent care centre.

The ID consultant establishment is made up of Dr Laurence John (10 PAs 7.5 ID: 2.5 AM), Dr Tumena Corrah (10 PAs 7.5 ID: 2.5 AM), Dr Ashley Whittington (10PAs 7.5 ID: 2.5 AM), Al McGregor (10 PAs 5 ID: 5 Microbiology) and Vicki Parris (6.5 PAs between Ealing and NPH).

The Department is supported by 3 Specialty Registrars who are part of the North-West London Rotation, 1 teaching fellow registrar, 1 additional Trust registrar and 6 Senior House Officers.

ID inpatients are based on the recently built Elgar Ward which includes 15 negative pressure side rooms and 4 ID Assessment Rooms (IDAR).

We also have 20 outlier beds between
Jonson and Dryden wards.
