Main duties of the job

This post will form part of a dynamic and flexible team in delivering a patient-focused, safe, clinically and cost-effective service supporting clinical leads and staff across our Trust and wider health-system in the management of patients with/at risk of infectious diseases, including (but not limited to):

support to the delivery of pharmacy services to other patients with/at risk of infectious diseases across the wider GSTT footprint support to the delivery of pharmacy services to the Trust's Respiratory High Consequence Infectious Diseases Unit management and delivery of COVID-19-specific treatments including neutralising monoclonal antibodies (nMAbs) and COVID-19-specific antivirals mass delivery of COVID-19 and influenza vaccinations

As a key part of this role you will be responsible for the safe and effective management of antimicrobial use and stewardship as part of the wider Infectious Diseases & COVID Services Pharmacy team.

This position will form part of a rotational clinical pharmacist programme within the Infectious Diseases & COVID Services team and will include rotations through the different areas described above. The role will focus on the pharmaceutical, clinical and quality aspects of the above services, in addition to providing robust governance on the safe and secure handling and management of these medicines.

About us

Directorate of Infection

The Directorate of Infection (DoI) includes the Department of Infectious Diseases, providing clinical care to both in-patients (either by direct patient management or consult/referral) and out-patients (via multiple well-established ID clinics) across both main Trust sites. The Directorate also includes the Trust's well-respected and nationally recognised Department of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), and hosts the Centre for Clinical Infection and Diagnostics Research, as well as being co-located with the main Infection Sciences and Virology laboratories on the St. Thomas' site.

COVID Services

The Vaccination Programme, which was formed in December 2020, is one of leading Vaccination Programmes within the UK. To date we have delivered 850,000+ vaccinations to a range of patients within London. We work across all hospital sites as well as within the community, including schools and other outreach services.

The Directorate is also responsible for leading the COVID Medicines Delivery Unit, providing antiviral or neutralising monoclonal antibody treatments for high risk patients with COVID in South East London.
