Cyber security is one of the defining topics of our age, and cyber risk represents one of the most significant strategic risks to the UK's critical national infrastructure.

SPEN have invested significantly in an ambitious security transformation programme to transparently reduce risk, achieve compliance with NIS regulations and deliver a cyber resilient business.


Reporting into the Head of Cyber Security Architecture, the Lead Cyber Security Architect role is key in ensuring the successful delivery of our strategic security vision, including the development and maintenance of associated security standards and documentation.

The role will also ensure that all functions that rely on network and information systems are protected, resilient and prepared against cyber incidents.


A Lead Cyber Security Architect requires the ability to identify opportunities to use technology to deliver secure services that are more effective.

They also need the skills to influence and communicate successfully with the relevant parties inside and outside of the company whilst remaining accountable for the outcomes.

The post holder will work closely across all Infrastructure, Telecommunications, Security and Business IT teams as well as wider Corporate Security to achieve key goals.


_What you'll be doing_

Leading the delivery of the Security Architecture Plan and development of associated roadmaps, identifying new security capabilities to support overall NIS compliance, and taking responsibility for the development of these capabilities into fully defined cost-effective security services.


Providing effective leadership, motivation, and task direction for Data Security and Physical/ Cyber Architecture Inspectors within the Security Architecture function.

Contributing to SPEN's security strategy, ensuring alignment between security architecture frameworks and standards with overall business strategy.


Ensuring that security architecture supports at each stage of the delivery of new projects as indicated by the 'Secure by Design' process.

Taking key ownership for the creation of security design documents and architecture artefacts.

Acting as an interface with the relevant Design Authorities, providing security guidance at all times.

Promoting consideration of asset management and data security best practice in relation to NIS regulations.

Driving the adoption of secure designs, patterns and best practices.

Maintaining awareness of the latest intelligence from sources of cyber threat information and briefs stakeholders with actionable information.

Contributing to security investment governance processes.

Ensuring performance management development of up to 3 direct reports.

_What you'll bring_

  • Relevant degree or diploma.
  • Ability to influence key technical and nontechnical stakeholders in relation to required security strategy.
  • Significant skills and experience in understanding at a technical level how IT/OT controls are implemented and operated.
  • Awareness of key legislation and regulation impacting IT/OT General Control requirements in the energy sector.
  • Willingness to travel internationally on business.
  • Must be a proven team player to work, promote and consolidate efficient team working relationships.
