We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Administrative Assistant to join our General Surgery performance team to support the Colorectal and Upper GI Advanced Specialist Practitioners (ASPs) and Patient Navigators with patients on the 2 week rule suspected cancer pathway.
The ASP model has been a new process for our patients which we have started to implement but will get fully up and running by the autumn.
The team will consist of 3 Colorectal ASPs and 2 Upper GI ASPs, 1 Upper GI patient navigator and 2 Colorectal Patient Navigators plus the Administration Assistant.
This is a role which can be challenging but also rewarding as you seek to support the ASPs and patient navigators as well as patients to provide a joined up service where our patients will feel listen to and valued.
You will be a member of the Colorectal and Upper GI Performance team providing administrative and secretarial support to Advanced Specialist Practitioners (ASPs), Patient Navigators and the Performance Team.
You will support the efficient channelling of communication between clinical staff, GPs, patients, relatives, members of the public and other disciplines within the Trust.
You should demonstrate excellent organisational skills, must be flexible in approach, able to exercise initiative and demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism, being aware of the need for confidentiality and integrity.
Main duties will including typing and processing patient letters and communication for the ASPs, communicating with GPs to chase up queries or results, liaising with radiology and endoscopy about urgent results and chasing up test results.

- Be the point of contact for enquires from Radiology, Endoscopy and GPs and other outside parties, referring where necessary to more senior staff.
- Responding to external and internal telephone queries from staff and others and referring to appropriate person.
- Typing of letters or other correspondence.
- Provide admin support for the Patient Navigators and liaising with patients when requested.
- Provide secretarial / administrative services by perusing and distributing incoming correspondence and patient results, disseminating information, composing reports and correspondence, maintaining uptodate filing systems and continuously developing administrative practices.
- Maintain efficient and effective administrative systems, including monitoring patients on the 2 week rule pathway, and message taking.
- Provide administrative support when other members of the team are absent from sickness or annual leave.
- Coordinate meetings for the ASPs internally and with any external parties.
