The Role

The University has a values-led Vision and Strategy which sets out an ambitious and exciting journey: to be a people focused, visibly leading university that harnesses academic excellence, innovation and creativity to advance knowledge and provide benefits to individuals, to organisations and to society as a whole.

In order to achieve this vision, we recognise that our people, and our culture are critical to our success.

As a University we have a long-standing commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and hold EDI as one of our core values.

In line with continuing to deliver on our EDI commitment, an exciting new opportunity has arisen for an experienced professional to join our team of EDI professionals and lead on the development and delivery of EDI training at the University.

The focus of this post will be to play a leading role in supporting the delivery of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, including NUMed, in its EDI activity.

As EDI Advisor, you will work closely with the Faculty's Directors of EDI to lead on the development and implementation of initiatives and policies that will improve diversity within the Faculty, as well as develop a sustainable strategy for its Athena Swan and race equality accreditation work, plus a wide range of overall EDI activities.

You will also support the delivery of the University's EDI agenda and work with colleagues within the EDI team to ensure there is a joined up approach to EDI activities across the University.

This is a permanent, full time position.

Key Accountabilities
Identify, recommend and encourage the embedding of strategies that promote an inclusive and supportive culture in all aspects of the workplace, and to lead on the implementation of EDI initiatives where appropriate
Engage and support colleague and student stakeholder groups, to ensure their voice is heard in the full range of Faculty services, policies and decisions
Identify, capture and utilise data to inform and evolve the EDI strategy and action plans for the Faculty and, working with the Faculty Directors of EDI, identifying key areas of focus as they emerge
Provide guidance to the University on what data is required for the Faculty to meet its accreditation ambitions
Lead on the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of action plans and objectives in relation to formal accreditations (e.g. Athena Swan) to ensure that the Faculty continues to fulfil its ambitions to be visibly leading in EDI
Work with the Race Equality and Accreditation Advisor and Faculty Directors of EDI to deliver the Faculty's race equality work
Support the Directors of EDI in monitoring Athena Swan progress across the Faculty
Monitor the Faculty EDI budget on behalf of the Directors of EDI
Support the Faculty's EDI Committee by preparing reports, management information, agendas and minutes and monitoring that all follow-up actions are completed
Lead on the delivery of the EDI communication strategy for the Faculty - ensuring that this is in line with the wider-University EDI communication strategy and plans
Maintain EDI content on internal and external Faculty webpages
Organise and lead relevant workshops and events across the Faculty in order to share good practice and, in conjunction with the wider-University EDI Team, support the University by highlighting priority areas of focus for EDI training and contributing to the overall EDI events calendar and training offer
Collaborate with relevant staff in other Universities and external organisations (e.g. Advance HE) in order to share good practice
Utilising knowledge of current EDI legislation and good practice, evaluate and advise on how internal and external changes might impact upon the policies, procedures and culture of the Faculty

Work toward ensuring equality analysis is embedded across the Faculty and completed when implementing or reviewing strategies, policies, and procedures.

This will include advising colleague on the equality analysis process
Attend and represent the Faculty at meetings/conferences both internally and externally
When required and capacity allows, lead on and/or support EDI colleagues in the delivery of identified central EDI projects and/or initiatives
Provide colleagues with advice and guidance on individual matters relating to EDI, including signposting to appropriate sources of help and support

The post will report into the Head of EDI and work closely with Faculty Directors of EDI, Faculty Director of Operations, and the Dean of EDI.

The post will also work with a range of academic and Professional Services colleagues that make up our EDI Leads to contribute
