Job summarynThe role of a Transport Safety Manager is vital to Metroline's ability to control and reduce collisions, incidents and near misses as part of an overall commitment to ensuring the very highest standards of workplace transport safety are achieved at all times.

The purpose of the role will be to effectively tackle, reduce the number and cost of collisions, and maintain and improve the driving standards across the organisation within a results focussed environment.

The Transport Safety Manager will manage, coordinate and administer relevant aspects of the Health and Safety and ensure appropriate levels of investigation are carried out for the Assigned Business Area Garages.

The role will support garages, attend collisions/incidents, undertake driver assessments and observations and participate in an on call rota. The post holder is expected to be flexible, attending all the Company's locations and in terms of hours worked.


Main Responsibilitiesn· Take a lead role within the Business Area regarding Health and Safety and Workplace Transport Safetyn· Ensure the incident/collision information is recorded correctly, maintained up to date and displaying the information within each site to the agreed format/style;n· Take forward Own Liability Collisions/Incidents to successful conclusion which may include direct involvement in the companies disciplinary processn· Conduct or ensure the appropriate level of investigation is undertaken in relation to all incidents.

This will include attending the scene of incidents, where it is deemed necessary and at times outside normal working hours;n· Retrieve CCTV data from any Metroline vehicle involved in an incident at the scene or elsewhere and to assist the emergency services in viewing the CCTV either at the scene or in an office environment;n· Ensure incident reports are submitted in accordance with Metroline's procedures and timescales.

This will include assisting with the completion of reports where necessary;n· Evaluate all incident reports and carry out follow up interviews as necessary, deal with matters arising that fall within the scope of the post holder's authority/responsibility.

Refer any matters outside this scope to the appropriate manager for further action;n· Take a lead role within the garage Health and Safety Committee meetings, ensuring key Health and Safety issues are raised and dealt with in the appropriate manner; undertake liaison with Police, Roads & Transport Policing Command.

Health and Safety Officials, Investigators and Metroline's Managers as necessary;n· Provide sufficient information and produce high quality reports to the post holder's manager and Metroline's Executive Management on a monthly basis relating to general Health and Safety matters and incidents that have occurred and any action taken that falls within the scope of the post holder;n· Advising managers and Metroline's Executive Management on all matters relating to Health and Safety and Transport Safety, within the post holder's competence level and experience;n· Work closely with the other Transport Safety Managers to ensure full benefit is derived from initiatives introduced by them.

This will include attending meetings of this group, which will be on a quarterly schedule;n· To attend and or coordinate attendance at the scene of collisions/incidents, producing reports and liaising with supervisors and managers as necessary.

The post holder will also be required to be on call out of normal hours to perform this duty;n· Ensure all matters relating to the Health and Safety and Transport Safety initiatives are dealt with in a professional and expedient manner and in the best interest of Metroline;n· Perform Drugs and Alcohol tests on behalf of the Company either at a manager's request following impairment suspicions or when needed following a Road Traffic Collision or Personal Injury incident;n· To monitor the information on Transport for London's IRIS Computerised Incident recording systems at the garages and ensure data which is input complies with Metroline's contractual obligations;n· Maintain professional and good working relationships with all managers, admin support, garage staff engineers and external agencies.


Essential Criterian· Accredited by the Driving Standards Agency to conduct Driving Assessments to BTEC standard;n· Understanding of relevant Health and Safety legislation;n· Hold appropriate certificates in Health and Safety Management (IOSHH);n· Hold a current PCV licence and DCPC Card;n· Good working knowledge of all Company PCV requirements and legislation, including disability awareness;n· Working knowledge of CCTV hard drive retrieval;n· Qualified to carry out Alcohol and Drug Testing;n· Familiar with Metroline's Garages and Operations.
