Birmingham, Birmingham, United Kingdom Cundall Full time

Join Our Team:

The Cundall vertical transportation team provide lift and escalator consultancy services for a wide range of different building types from data centres and airports, to shopping centres, residential developments, and offices.

We do this as part of a coordinated multi-disciplinary design team, and as a single discipline where only lift works are involved in the project.

We are involved in all the stages of construction projects from concept design of the vertical transportation requirements for buildings to specification development.

We work in collaboration with lift contractors to turn a design into reality.

We also assess existing lifts and escalators within buildings and provide building owners with advice on works required to upgrade or replace them.

We provide expert advice and support to building managers to assist with the operational management of lifts and escalators under maintenance, assisting to ensure clients comply with legislative requirements and plan for future investments.

The Role You'll Play:
Further to continuing success and growth, we are looking for an apprentice to join the

Birmingham team, who is interested in embarking on a career in the field of Vertical Transportation.

This role would suit someone who is in the early stages of their career working for lift companies as a Lift Engineer to broaden your experience into wider scope of works.

In this role, you will work as part of an experienced team who will provide you with support and guidance.

The role will involve undertaking lift traffic analysis to determine the requirements of a building, writing reports, developing specifications, and participating in design team meetings.

The correct design of vertical transportation systems is critical to ensure the operation of a building as well as a significant architectural element affecting the operation, accessibility, look and feel of buildings.

The design of vertical transportation systems touches on many areas of engineering and building design such as:

  • People flow
  • how people circulate in buildings
  • Kinematic analysis to determine performance requirements
  • Electrical requirements, building interfaces, and SMART integration
  • Energy usage analysis and contribution to the sustainability of developments
  • Architectural look & feel key elements of building function and impact other building form elements
  • Integration with the building structure
  • Building operation and function
  • Providing accessibility for all building user groups and building uses.

As your career and competence develop you will attend and input at design meetings and provide vertical transportation advice to clients, architects, and engineers (internal and external) on design issues relating to new systems, refurbishment, and maintenance works.

Subject to necessary health and safety training you will undertake site visits and inspections and could run your projects and liaise with clients.

The Skills You'll Bring:
You will be educated to at least GCSE grade C (4) or above in English and Maths.

You will have an interest in engineering design and problem solving, and a desire to become a trusted expert in their field through proactive learning and collaborating with peers.

  • Demonstratable strength in the use of MS Word and Excel is essential as the regular production of written reports will be a key aspect of the role.
  • You may have completed a qualification within Lift Engineering
  • Educated to a minimum of GCSE (or equivalent) grade C or above in English and Maths
  • You possess the personal qualities and organisation skills to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, are a confident communicator, looking for a career in creative, sustainable, and intuitive design.
