Job Requirements:

  • The Named Nurse Safeguarding Children will be responsible for ensuring that effective and efficient structures, systems and processes are in place to promote a high standard of evidenced based practice in the field of safeguarding.
  • Ensuring a think family approach is embedded within practice and specifically ensuring safeguarding children practice is compliant with current legislation and guidance
  • The individual needs to be conversant with legislation and provide expert safeguarding advice and support to staff consistent with legislation, guidance and procedures.
  • Ensuring that there are robust internal safeguarding policies, which take into account legislation, guidance and procedures
  • Leading and promoting excellence and compliance in safeguarding practice within the organisation across the full spectrum of activity from prevention and early help through to the statutory response to serious incidents, local and national child safeguardingpractice reviews.
  • Using their expertise in children's health and development and child maltreatment in the contribution to local interagency arrangements for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Assist in providing strategic direction on all aspects of safeguarding children

  • The post holder will assist in the planning process and will deliver training for staff in all aspects of children's safeguarding and will participate in the development and delivery of a training strategy.

The post holder will participate in policy development across all aspects of safeguarding children and will assist with the implementation into practice of all relevant national and local safeguarding recommendations and guidance.


  • The Children's Safeguarding Nurse will provide operational management of cases involving any child who is an inpatient in our hospital sites where there are child protection concerns in order to ensure effective multidisciplinary and interagency risk assessment,decision making and development of safeguarding plans and actions.
  • The Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children will have excellent leadership skills and have the ability to promote good professional safeguarding practice by providing advice and supervision to staff within the service
