The East of England had the highest population growth over the last 10 years.

This is putting increased pressure on our unique but vulnerable environment, most notably affecting water availability, water treatment and communities impacted by flooding.

As a Planning Specialist you will work with customers and partners across the region to ensure future growth puts the environment at its heart, protecting and enhancing it for future generations.

The role offers opportunities to deepen your professional planning knowledge and develop your project management, innovation and leadership skills.

Your work will also involve:
- seeking opportunities to expand our strategic planning and early engagement service so that we can influence early stages of development;
- leading on the team's high profile workstreams including major projects and strategic planning matters;
- providing strong technical leadership which inspires and motivates the team and other colleagues;
- working collaboratively and developing strong relationships with customers and stakeholders at all levels, within and outside the organisation;
- leading or participating in internal projects, locally and nationally, to achieve integrated solutions that progress continuous improvement.

At the Environment Agency, responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team- The Sustainable Places team is part of a cross cutting department that works in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to deliver EA2025 goals.

We are a positive, friendly and hardworking team who take pride in protecting and enhancing the environment for future generations.
