An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and driven Band 7 Advanced Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to lead the acute service in the Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team at Macclesfield District General Hospital.

The role will involve leading the acute service including the management of patients with complex dysphagia and a range of acquired communication difficulties. The successful applicant will have established skills in dysphagia. Skills and experience in videofluoroscopy, and knowledge of tracheostomy patients and FEES are desirable but not essential.

Enthusiastic and motivated, you will be confident liaising with the medical team and a range of health care professionals. You will be innovative and able to contribute to the development of the acute Speech and Language Therapy service.

You will engage in staff supervision and training of others and there will be opportunities for self-development within the Trust. You will lead projects aimed at improving service delivery.

Main duties of the job

To provide a safe, effective and consistently high quality Speech and Language Therapy service at East Cheshire NHS Trust. To act as a clinical expert and autonomous practitioner in specialist clinical area to provide highly specialist care to Speech and Language Therapy patients with complex swallowing and communication needs. Manage a delegated caseload within specialist area. To assess, plan and implement patient centred, evidence-based intervention. To provide evidence -based care, education and information to patients, carers an health care professionals in a range of inpatient settings. The role includes leading and developing a team of specialist Speech and Language Therapists in the acute ward service, covering ICU, A&E in addition to the other speciality medical wards across the hospital. Provide line management and supervision to Band 6 and Band 5 Speech and Language Therapists. contribute to the training and development of Speech and Language Therapy students and Speech and Language Therapy assistants. To support the Speech and Language Therapy Team Lead and Nutrition and Dietetic Service Lead with operational and strategic planning, deputising, as required.
