Job summary

**This position is open to staff working at the Trust in the 'ECT Family' this includes current East Cheshire NHS Trust employees, bank staff, ISS staff and volunteers at the Trust.**

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist to work closely with other experienced colleagues to contribute to the provision of a specialist inpatient SLT service including complex swallowing evaluations and rehabilitation as well as the provision of instrumental assessments such as FEES and videofluoroscopy. To fulfil this role, competence in at least one area of instrumental dysphagia assessment is essential.

In addition, you will work in the community setting, assessing and treating people with a range of acquired and progressive neurological conditions. You will ideally have a minimum of 5 years' experience with this caseload.

Skills in the assessment and management of communication disorders, cognitive communication and capacity assessment and advocacy are also important.

Having access to a vehicle is essential to this role, along with a full valid UK driving licence.

Main duties of the job

To act as an advanced clinical specialist speech and language therapist responsible for the triage, assessment and treatment of patients with complex conditions delivering therapy in the most appropriate environment for the patient clinic, home, acute setting.

To act as an advanced clinical specialist responsible for the triage, assessment and treatment of patients admitted to the acute service including critical care, with dysphagia and/or communication difficulties, referred for Speech and Language Therapy.

To work as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team to support integrated working for this patient group. To use advanced specialist knowledge and skills to contribute to the multidisciplinary case management to ensure appropriate pathways of care and communication via liaison and referral to other agencies as required embracing neighbourhood team philosophies.

To act as the lead clinician within specialist areas, supporting the operational delivery of the acute inpatient service and service development initiatives for the east location, ensuring consistent service delivery with the clinical specialists in East Cheshire.

To work closely with speech and language therapy colleagues, ensuring a seamless patient journey from inpatient to outpatient and the community setting.
