As a band 7 sonographer, you will create a supportive learning environment for trainee sonographers. You will support the participation and leadership of the centrally registered audit and continuous improvement programs.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Provide an ultrasound service consisting of unsupervised scanning sessions.
  • Perform high-quality ultrasound examinations using analytical and judgment skills to interpret highly complex images whose acquisition is operator dependent.
  • Generate comprehensive, diagnostic reports independently for each examination.
  • Deliver distressing or unexpected news directly to patients with tact, empathy, and diplomacy.
  • Communicate complex information regarding diagnosis/treatment directly to clinicians and patients.
  • Continuously develop and maintain personal clinical expertise in ultrasound scanning.
  • Conduct Continuing Professional Development and Personal Development Plan independently and encourage others to do the same.
  • Review, update, and maintain patient clinical records.
  • Train, supervise, and assess undergraduates, postgraduates, and clinicians in ultrasound.
  • Handle conflicting demands from different staff groups at all levels.

About Us

We cater to the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Our permanent staff predominantly reside in Barking, Dagenham, Havering, and Redbridge, with a majority coming from black, Asian, and minority ethnic groups. Additionally, we offer healthcare services to individuals in south west Essex and specialized neurosciences services countywide.

Our services encompass all major specialties of large acute hospitals operating primarily from King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. With two of the busiest emergency departments in London, we served over 300,000 individuals in our A&Es in 2023. Furthermore, we deliver outpatient services across various locations.

We take pride in leading efforts to reduce patient wait times for treatment, with notable recognitions and improvements in our services.

We are particularly proud of our Regional Neurosciences Center, Radiotherapy Center, Hyper Acute Stroke Unit, and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital. Additionally, we are part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

  • Post Graduate qualification in Medical Ultrasound.
  • Managerial qualification or equivalent knowledge and experience.

Desirable

  • Possess a BSc Hons degree or DCR in Diagnostic Radiography.
