The Innovation Lead will design, develop and manage a robust programme of Innovation Pilots.

In line with Triage's Growth Strategy , this is a key role to improve Triage's experience and credentials in areas of service delivery which align with future growth opportunities.

This will include guiding the organisation on which pilots we should run and in which location/s.


An innovation pilot is a smaller-scale programme to either test the viability of an idea or to allow us to collate evidence of working in new locations and/or with specific (or key) groups of participants in a certain way.

Each pilot will require the development of a detailed service delivery model which draws on sector best practice and evidence-based models, ensuring high quality, outcome focused and innovative provision.

The ability to gather and present data and evidence from each pilot is a key component of success and must be built into service design.


The Innovation Lead will take ownership of a newly agreed pipeline of future pilots, enabling delivery of multiple pilots each year.

This will involve the line management and development of a small team of Pilot Facilitators.

The role will report monthly into the Innovation Pilot oversight meeting, involving key members of the Executive Team. Additional reporting will be required to any external funders/commissioners of pilot activity, including public sector stakeholders.

The pilots could consist of participants/learners from our live programmes, or new referrals sourced externally. So, this role will require someone with good sector knowledge, excellent communication, influencing and engagement skills.


It will also be essential for the Innovation Lead to build strong relationships with operational teams and other internal stakeholders for the purpose of generating referrals, effectively utilising staff resources and sharing best practice and lessons learned from the pilot activity.


The Innovation Lead will collaborate closely with the Executive Team, Business Development Team, Programme Managers and local operations, so sound knowledge and experience of working in operational teams is vital.


Role key objectives:


Take ownership of the Innovation Pilot pipeline, ensuring successful delivery of multiple pilots and managing the process from start to finish.

Lead and report into the Innovation Pilot oversight meetings.
Engagement of essential personnel in pilot decision making and resourcing.

Giving strategic direction on which pilots the business should run, where and when, utilising research, sector understanding and evidence-based practice as appropriate.

Ensure the robust design and documentation of each pilot including generating relevant data and evidence.

Provide hands on management and oversight of pilot delivery with a focus on continuous improvement, including the ability to observe and feedback to delivery staff and amend the service model to achieve the best possible outcomes for participants.

Prepare and deliver reports and presentations, including data analysis on pilot activity, to multiple internal and external stakeholders.

Work closely with the Head of Communications and Marketing to generate information on the impact of each innovation pilots for external audiences.

Management of the pilots, including people management and development and performance management (in conjunction with the relevant programme manager if utilising current staff/caseloads).Ensuring agreed milestones/objectives are achieved.

Work alongside other members of the Business Development Team to secure relevant partners and funders to support an expansion of the breadth and depth of pilot activity.

Provide cover for Pilot Facilitators as and when required.

What we are looking for

EssentialOperational experience, ideally gained within the employment and/or skills sector.
Personal track record of working towards and exceeding targets.

Able to demonstrate good presentation skills, solid judgement and decision-making, strong relationship and stakeholder management, performance management, ability to inspire and influence with professionalism and integrity, assertiveness and resilience, creativity and a solution focused approach.

Technical skills including strong administration skills, good computer/technology skills, basic numeracy/spreadsheet skills, Powerpoint skills and good written communication/record keeping skills.

Ability to multi task and effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including negotiation and influencing.
Ability to build strong engaging working relationships (internal and external).Willingness to travel and work from various locations.

DesirablePerformance and people management experience in a fast-paced target driven customer service environment.
