Chair, Scottish Council of Independent Schools (SCIS)

Location:
Homeworking with access to co-working spaces

Voluntary with reasonable expenses covered

The Scottish Council of Independent Schools (SCIS) is an educational charity representing and promoting the interests of fee paying and specialist schools across the country.

We provide a platform for more than 70 independent schools, representing almost 30,000 pupils from a range of backgrounds, ensuring the sector is at the forefront of Scottish education.

There are currently 3,000 children receiving bursary support providing those children with similar transformational opportunities.

What all our schools have in common is a desire to help all learners, including some of the most vulnerable, reach their potential and to make a valuable contribution to the wider education system.

SCIS promotes choice, diversity and excellence in our schools and across education, while sharing our experience and expertise, to advance education across Scotland.

The independent schools sector sector provides a setting and educational offer tailored to the individual in modern facilities and the latest in technology.

Our schools have the freedom to decide their own curriculums, allowing them to provide a bespoke education to equip students with the skills to make their mark in society.

Complementing this holistic approach, are impressive figures for post-school success. More than 90% of students go on to university, giving them the opportunity to realise their potential.

Whether it is through our expertise in supporting children with complex needs or homework mentoring programmes, we are highly motivated to use this expertise and resource to greater effect.

But we don't have all the answers and the sector is keen to listen to other parts of the education system to find out what more we can do to benefit as many learners in Scotland as possible.

To do this, SCIS is looking for a Chair who is experienced at building consensus, and who can help the organisation realise its ambitions to play a greater role in supporting all learners and to make our education community a strong and collaborative one.

We are looking for someone who will bring the gravitas and leadership skills required for this challenging and rewarding role.

If you have a passion for education and ambitions to improve the life chances of young people, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Applications in the form of a tailored CV and covering letter, highlighting your skills and experience pertinent to the role, should arrive no later than **midnight Sunday 10 December.
