About the role:


The Data Engineer is responsible for building systems that collect, manage, and convert raw data into usable information to be consumed by stakeholders within Technology Operations and the wider Ocado Group.

Collaboration between the Data Engineer and business stakeholders is essential when creating usable datasets from raw data.

Roles & responsibilities include:

  • Support the building, maintenance and monitoring of ETL processes and data pipelines
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand company objectives and translate their requirement into a production standard technical solution
  • Implement solutions with future growth, scale and lifecycle in mind balancing complexity, automation and ease of maintenance
  • Develop standards and design effective validation methods, and appropriate tools for analysis and data cleansing
  • Support the development of end user layer datasets to warrant a continued reporting capability for the business
  • Ensure compliance with relevant data governance and security policies
  • Demonstrate and maintain knowledge of industry standard practices, new technologies and methodologies relating to data engineering and management
  • Continually review and seek improvements to existing and future solutions
  • Present and share with leaders and/or stakeholders, and a range of technical and nontechnical internal audiences
  • Write and maintain clear and accurate supporting documentation

What we're looking for:

  • Fluent in SQL
  • Experience using BigQuery
  • Strong knowledge of data management and modelling
  • Previous experience in an operational or reporting data role
  • Good understanding of data structures and data blending techniques
  • Demonstrable skill in data cleansing, interrogation and manipulation
  • Strong knowledge of data management and modelling
  • Logical approach to problemsolving e.g. understand how to break down an issue
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desirable

  • Python, Java Script (or other scripting language)
  • Experience of cloudbased databases and tools
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • First class or 2.1 degree with a demonstrable highly numerate or social science content (such as maths, economics, statistics, operational research, data science, psychology)
