Data & Insight

At Ocado Retail, data and insight are essential for driving decisions across all aspects of our grocery operations. From shaping promotions and product range to understanding customer shopping behaviors and developing new marketing campaigns, the role of data analysts is crucial. We provide regular training sessions to enhance skills in key tools such as SQL, VBA, and more.

Purpose of Role

The primary goal of this role is to leverage data science to achieve ORL's business objectives. As a rapidly growing retailer with rich data resources, this role offers the opportunity to solve complex analytical problems and witness rapid execution at scale. The position provides autonomy to approach business challenges creatively and seek innovative solutions that drive commercial success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and maximize the value of the in-house data science team.
  • Manage projects spanning various business areas to elevate analytics sophistication.
  • Prioritize and oversee a portfolio of projects to successful completion.
  • Understand business requirements and leverage data science to meet them.
  • Build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on the latest Machine Learning techniques to enhance analytical capabilities.
Requirements
  • Experience leading projects involving large datasets and complex statistical techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Translate complex business problems into data science projects.
  • Strong knowledge of statistical concepts and machine learning techniques.
  • Familiarity with Cloud computing and Python/SQL programming.
  • Postgraduate degree in mathematics, statistics, or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in data science team leadership.
  • Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform and machine learning tools.
  • Proficiency in Python, R, Julia, and SQL.
  • Experience with common machine learning and deep learning frameworks.
  • Agile working experience.
  • Research experience (M.Phil. or Ph.D. preferred).
