We will be hosting an assessment day at the McLaren Technology Centre in late June. We will confirm the timings at a later date.

Purpose of the Role:

We have an exciting opportunity for highly-motivated and proactive engineering students to join our McLaren Racing Design Engineering team, for a period of 12 months, that will see you contribute to our performance and expose you to how a Formula 1 team works, with hands-on experience in our Design teams.

You need to be able to use your own initiative, learn new topics & skills, work proactively and, often, to strict deadlines in a high-pressure environment – in what are demanding but extremely rewarding roles. Internships at McLaren are a fantastic opportunity to apply yourself and act as a springboard for your engineering career.

Your placement will take place in one of our design teams within McLaren Racing and will involve hands-on CAD focused work to help the design & development of our parts. When applying, please provide examples of previous CAD schemes or drawings that you have worked on, to demonstrate this experience.

Principal Accountabilities:

We would expect the following from successful candidates:

  • Quick integration within teams to maximise effectiveness.
  • Delivering high-quality work in a timely manner, using strong time-management skills.
  • Responsibility for specific projects, with guidance and support from more senior team members.

K nowledge, Skills and Experience:

The following attributes are required for this role:

  • Currently working towards a degree in Engineering, Mathematics or the Sciences.
    • Please note : this internship is for degree-level university, ideally at 2nd year level looking for a year in industry placement before their final year of studies
  • General computing skills and software knowledge appropriate to placement area.
    • For this internship, experience with, and knowledge of, CAD packages is required.
  • A practical mindedness and a passion for motorsport.
  • Previous experience in motorsport is desirable, but not required.

  • Proactivity and an aptitude for picking up skills and methods quickly.
  • The ability to work well under pressure and with time constraints (with support provided to ensure this works well).
  • An intelligent, data-driven approach to solving new and challenging problems, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to learn and develop skills on the job, as well as to apply existing skills to new types of problems.
  • Good communication and presentation skills to work effectively as part of a close-knit team, with shared responsibilities, working under challenging conditions.

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking. The MTC is connected to Woking mainline station via regular shuttle buses, from which London Waterloo is a 30 minute train ride.
