KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To be aware of statutory requirements to be able to support staff and families in relation to school attendance and be proactive in assessing situations where students/families may be in need of additional support.
  • To keep abreast of best practice developments in order to inform internal procedures and processes are most effective.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • To support the implementation of operational/strategic plans relating to improving attendance.
  • To oversee the work of the attendance administrator to ensure student attendance is monitored and analysed appropriately using the school management information system (MIS).
  • To ensure all attendance monitoring records are up to date and complies with statutory duties and in accordance with the General Data Protection regulations.
  • Develop bespoke monitoring systems in order to best support individual students and secure best possible attendance.
  • To monitor and track data around attendance and attainment and to use this data to support identified groups to show an improvement in these areas.
  • In liaison with the Head of Post 16, to complete monthly attendance information to determine payment of the 1619 bursary.
  • To provide administrative support that underpins the implementation of operational/strategic plans relating to improving attendance.
  • To ensure all registers are completed and no missing marks or unexplained absences remain and maintain an accurate system for students signing in and out of school, to include Post 1
  • To monitor and record the outcomes of planning with students and parents to improve attendance, maintain efficient and contemporaneous notes and records.
  • To evaluate the success of support initiatives with regard to school attendance issues and to produce reports on student attendance on a regular basis.
  • To monitor attendance and organise meetings with students and parents to agree strategies to reduce absence and improve attendance.
  • To produce and interpret information relating to attendance patterns and provide updates to staff on student attendance with targets and strategies for improvement.
  • To work with the wider student support centre team to take supportive/remedial action in respect of individual absentees to secure their regular attendance at school or other education provision including home school visits as appropriate.
  • To work with the student support team in liaison with Behaviour Support Services, Social Services, Health and Family Support services as appropriate to identify students at risk of disaffection.
  • To be an advocate to young people and their families by working in partnership with the student support team across a full range of education welfare duties to develop solutions to absence, attendance or related welfare issues.
  • To oversee school correspondence in respect of attendance, liaising with SLT as appropriate.
  • Under the direction of the attendance lead, ensure processes in cases of regular nonattendance or unauthorised absence including referral for fixed penalty fines/prosecution are followed.
  • To contribute to development and implementation of school policies and procedures for improving school attendance and translating these into practice.
  • To promote and maximise educational opportunities and achievements for individual children and young people.
  • To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature, as defined by line management from timetotime.
