The purpose of the RIDAC is:
To shape and prioritise research and innovation proposals.

To advise on the research topic and the innovation required (including its evaluation)

To act as a conduit to provision of further practical advice on research proposals, including the impact on current NHS services and live IT services for that screening programme

Escalate concerns to the DES Screening Delivery Group where appropriate.

The role of the Chair is work in collaboration with the National Screening Advisor for DES, as well as the NHSE Programme Leads.

The time commitment for the role will be 4 meetings per year, plus the associated preparatory work. Timings will be dependent on meeting schedules and working group / subgroup.

Be responsible for the progression and development of Research, Evaluation and Audit within the NHS Screening Programme

Play a critical role in ensuring the Committee's continued standing as a recognised body in the field of NHS screening.

Bring relevant knowledge, skills and experience to the Committee and contribute to the provision of high quality and well considered advice to NHS England.

Where urgent advice is required on the work of the RIDAC, the Chair would be expected to provide this
on behalf of the Committee.

To work with partners to ensure any information NHSE shares remain secure, lawful, and transparent.

Be compliant with all governance requirements and controls.

The DES Screening Research, Innovation and Development advisory Committee (RIDAC) will advise the NHSE Director of Public Health Commissioning and Operations via the NHSE DES Screening Delivery Group on issues related to research, innovation, development, and evaluation activities requiring data linked to the NHSE DES Screening Programme.

This includes advising on the appropriateness and relevance of data access requests, the research topic, the innovation required including its evaluation and to act as a conduit to provision of further practical advice on research proposals including the impact on current NHS services and live IT services for that screening programme.

As such, the members will determine whether the RIDAC will formally support the research or evaluation in question by considering the impact on existing NHS pathways and any other requirements the NHS will need to undertake to support the research/evaluation.

Should there be concerns, these should be escalated to the Delivery Group for further discussion to inform the prioritisation process.

In April 2023, NHS England, NHS Digital, and Health Education England merged to create a new, single organisation to lead the NHS in England.

This new NHS England is designed to create a simpler, smaller, high performing, organisation that leads the NHS more effectively and is a better place to work.

Speaking with one voice to the service.

The new NHS England board have set out the top-level purpose for the new organisation to lead the NHS in England to deliver high-quality services for all, which will inform the detailed design work and we will achieve this purpose by:
Enabling local systems and providers to improve the health of their people and patients and reduce health inequalities.

Making the NHS a great place to work, where our people can make a difference and achieve their potential.

Working collaboratively to ensure our healthcare workforce has the right knowledge, skills, values and behaviours to deliver accessible, compassionate care.

Optimising the use of digital technology, research, and innovation

Delivering value for money.
