London, Greater London, United Kingdom Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust Full time

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified, enthusiastic and experienced Senior Retinal Screener Grader to join the South East London Diabetic Eye Screening Programme, provided by Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

Screening is delivered in Hospital outpatient clinics, NHS health centres and high street opticians.

The service is one of the largest eye screening programmes in the country, responsible for providing screening to over 100,000 patients and has close links with both ophthalmology and diabetes services across SE London as well as our academic colleagues in King's Health Partners who are leading the field of diabetes research.

Experience in capturing and grading OCT images would be an advantage but not essential.

Excellent customer care and communication skills are essential for this post. You will be self-disciplined, focused and able to manage clinics independently providing the highest quality care to our patients.

Undertake diabetic eye screening on patients with diabetes across a variety of screening sites in the London boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham, Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich

This includes:
taking a brief symptoms and history

measuring visual acuity

instilling dilating eye drops

capturing high quality digital retinal images

grading digital retinal images to referral outcome level

Capture and assess Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans for patients with maculopathy.

Updating the screening database with the patient's demographic details, visual acuity and any other relevant information.

Monitor the grading queues to ensure grading is completed to ensure timely notification of results and onward referral where appropriate.

To train and mentor junior staff in grading (retinal screeners and retinal screener/graders).

Participate in quality assurance, audit and research activities

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust comprises five of the UK's best known hospitals - Guy's, St Thomas', Evelina London Children's Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield - as well as community services in Lambeth and Southwark, all with a long history of high quality care, clinical excellence, research and innovation.

We have a long tradition of clinical and scientific achievement and - as part of King's Health Partners - we are one of England's eight academic health sciences centres, bringing together world-class clinical services, teaching and research.

We have one of the National Institute for Health Research's biomedical research centres, established with King's College London in 2007, as well as dedicated clinical research facilities.

We have around 22,700 staff, making us one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country and one of the biggest employers locally.

We aim to reflect the diversity of the communities we serve and continue to develop new and existing partnerships with local people, patients, neighbouring NHS organisations, local authorities and charitable bodies and GPs.

We strive to recruit and retain the best staff as the dedication and skills of our employees lie at the heart of our organisation and ensure that our services are of the highest quality, safe and focused on our patients.
