Essex County Council (ECC) is excited to assist Braintree District Council in recruiting two Housing Options Officers for a 3-month temporary period.

The Role:

The main goal of this position is to offer a customer-focused service to individuals and families facing housing difficulties. Assess housing needs, provide specialized advice on all housing options to prevent and alleviate homelessness. Conduct investigations to determine the Council's obligations under PtV11 Housing Act 1996 and ensure statutory duties are fulfilled.

The Experience You Will Bring:

  • Good interviewing and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with an empathetic approach.
  • Strong IT and letter writing skills.
  • Experience in providing housing advice, liaising with various organizations, and working in a housing-related field.
  • Experience in issuing Personalized Housing Plans and writing s184 decisions.
  • Willingness to work in the office initially followed by a hybrid work pattern.
  • Ability to manage workload, be proactive, and work collaboratively.

Desirable:

Experience with Civica (Abritas), own transport and driving license, minimal notice to start.

Accountabilities:

  • Provide frontline service to customers regarding housing needs.
  • Participate in Housing Options duty rota and respond to emergencies.
  • Prevent and alleviate homelessness through various actions.
  • Offer expert advice on housing options and produce Personalized Housing Plans.
  • Help customers access different housing opportunities and assess suitability for schemes.
  • Liaise with relevant teams and agencies, attend case conferences when needed.
  • Facilitate Housing Advice Surgeries and outreach services.
  • Conduct formal investigations when necessary and issue decision letters.
