We are part of one of the largest physics and science education YouTube channels in the world, with content spanning a decade and more than 2 billion lifetime views. We create videos for a curious, engaged audience that never stops asking the big questions.

We are seeking a talented and passionate 2D Animator to contribute to our premium science, maths and engineering video production efforts working across both technical and non-technical animations.

As a key member of our team, you will work closely with our producers, scriptwriters, and video editors to bring high-end scientific, mathematical and engineering concepts to life through captivating animations.

Your animations will play a crucial role in enhancing our viewers' understanding and engagement of complex scientific subjects.

Tasks
  • Collaborate with scriptwriters and content creators to conceptualise and visualise animations that effectively communicate scientific and technical concepts.
  • Create high-quality 2D animations that align with the visual style and tone of our YouTube channel.
  • Based on briefs and collaboration with other team members, transform abstract ideas and theories into engaging and informative visual content.
  • Ensure accurate representation of scientific and technical information in animation, based on briefs received from the team.
  • Work closely with the video editing team to seamlessly integrate animations into video content.
  • Provide creative input and suggestions to enhance the visual storytelling process.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in animation techniques to continuously improve the quality of our content.
Requirements
  • Strong portfolio showcasing your 2D animation skills and ability to convey complex concepts visually
  • Proficiency in industry-standard animation software (e.g., Adobe After Effects, Cavalry, Manim, etc.).
  • Agility and flexibility to deliver animated storytelling across a range of creative visual styles
  • Proven experience in animating illustrations to tell visual stories and provide narrative context.
  • Excellent storyboarding skills to effectively plan and visualise animation sequences.
  • A passion for science, technology, and education, with a desire to create content that inspires and educates our audience.
  • Solid interest in, or understanding of scientific and technical subjects, or a demonstrated ability to quickly grasp and depict such concepts accurately.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work within deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate within a team environment.
  • Additional experience in 3D animation (and software such as Blender, Maya, Cinema 4D etc) is a plus, though not essential for the role.
