Job description

This will be a post working on fundamental recruitment, research, and data analysis in the NIHR BioResource Centre Maudsley.

The BioResource is focused on recruiting participants with mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders as well as other health conditions in diverse populations.


The post-holder will work within a multi-disciplinary team of clinical, research and mental health professionals and will provide support for large scale research studies within the BioResource.

Additionally, they will support diversity recruitment projects. The post-holder will have good organisational skills, be adaptable, possess good teamwork skills and be capable of working independently. Ideally, they should possess knowledge of R or Python, or be willing to learn these skills.

This post will be offered on a fixed term basis until November 2024.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

  • Assist with recruitment efforts for a wide range of mental health projects, both online and inperson recruitment projects.
  • Obtain blood and other samples from participants in accordance with good clinical practice guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with data storage, upkeep, and analysis. They will ensure that all patient information is accurate and stored correctly, including databasing and filing of consent paperwork.
  • Help with training of junior staff, including placement students.
  • Assist the theme lead and manager to deal with ethical and regulatory documentation amendments as required.
  • Be prepared to work to tight deadlines when required and to facilitate late or weekend working if needed.
  • The post holder will be able to plan and manage his/her personal work schedule
  • The post holder should be able to prioritise different tasks in the context of theme objectives
  • Be available to work within a flexible timetable if necessary.
Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualification (e.g., psychology, applied social sciences)
  • Excellent organisational, communication, interpersonal and administrative skills
  • Excellent time-management skills with ability to work to deadlines
  • Fluent in written and Spoken English
  • Ability to follow research guidelines and protocols
  • Good all-round IT and database skills and familiar with maintenance of Secure Web Databases
  • Experience of working with vulnerable groups who may be experiencing mental health and neurological difficulties, preferably in a clinical or research setting.
Desirable criteria

  • Master's Degree or Equivalent Research Experience in a Relevant Subject
  • Knowledge or understanding of quantitative research methods
  • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently.
