Role Overview:


As Head of Civic and Member Support, you would be responsible for leading and directing the Civic and Member Support team to provide a comprehensive and confidential support service to the Mayoralty and Elected Members, ensuring the delivery of the service is high quality and cost effective.

Reporting to the Head of Democratic Services and as part of the management team, the postholder will play a strategic and operational role in the management of the service.

The postholder will ensure that the strategic policy objectives of the Council are achieved effectively, efficiently and economically as they relate to the Civic and Member Support team

Key Responsibilities:

  • To ensure an effective and appropriate level of support is provided to the mayoralty, and Elected Members of the Council. This includes ICT support and keeping up to date with development which can support working more smartly.
  • To research, analyse, interpret and produce management information/data as required for the service.

Key Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need as a minimum:

  • Highly developed political awareness skills to engage with Elected Members in a discreet and confidential manner
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written, including presentation skills, to impart complex information in day to day language to a wide range of audiences
  • Interpersonal skills in negotiating and influencing others to support the achievement of the objectives of the Civic and Member Support Service team
