H&S Co-ordinator

Colchester based with hybrid working

Reporting to:
Group H&S and Operations Manager

This is a 12 month fixed term maternity cover position.

Responsible for providing support to the Group H&S and Operations Manager in the development and implementation of the Hiscox H&S risk management strategy. Supporting on all aspects of H&S across the entire Hiscox portfolio, ensuring that minimum standards including statutory requirements are met in all its operations.


The role will be instrumental in assisting the production of robust plans, promotion of H&S, Security and Business Continuity management across the business, implementing necessary processes and procedures, promoting continued improvement whilst keeping abreast of legal requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety (Global)

  • Assist in the production, develop and review all aspects of the Hiscox H&S policies ensuring that they are implemented consistently across the Group.
  • Produce effective risk assessments and risk management strategies where required.
  • Support the strategic direction for effective H&S management and appropriate workplace programmes.
  • Monitor, evaluate and review existing, new and upcoming H&S legislation and ensure that Hiscox has systems and procedures in place to meet legal compliance and other requirements.
  • Work proactively with Managers and other stakeholders i.e (GATES network) to establish and maintain a programme of continuous improvement in the management of H&S within their areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure that accidents and incidents are rigorously investigated to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to drive continual improvement.
  • Work closely with the UK Facilities Management company to ensure that onsite engineers/contractors are provided with information, instruction, training and supervision.
  • Support the delivery of an effective H&S training programme to comply with legislation.

Business Continuity (Global)

  • Support the development and review all aspects of the Hiscox BCP Management System ensuring that they are implemented consistently across the Group reflecting the requirements of the BCI Good Practice Guidelines.
  • Proactively identify BCP risks to the business and assist the production of effective resilience strategies.
  • Ensure that location BCP plans are effective and are tested regularly in accordance with the Group BCP Management System.

Security (Global)

  • Assist in producing, develop and review of all aspects of the Hiscox Security Management System ensuring that it is implemented consistently across the Group.
  • Support the completion of location security assessments and the design of effective security strategies.

Skills & Experience

  • Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
  • An understanding of all aspects of H&S and risk management.
  • An understanding of current H&S legislation, management and standards including for BCP and Security standards.
  • Ability to interpret and provide advice on H&S, BCP and Security issues.
  • Knowledge of workplace wellbeing initiatives and how they add value to an organisation.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility /versatility combined with initiative, drive and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Customer service focused, demonstrating an appetite to deliver beyond expectation.
  • Approachable, human and fair inherent drive to continuously deliver an exceptional service to colleagues, end users, direct reports and senior stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a wide variety of key stakeholders.
