Middleton Ltd. are a long established, family run business providing waste services from their Doncaster depot. We are looking to recruitan experienced HGV Mechanic / Fleet Engineer.

Our working hours are
7am-4/5pm Mon-Fri. Saturday work is only required for work that cannot be completed during the week and emergencies.


You will develop a sound working relationship with our on-site Transport Manager, to ensure fleet compliance in line with transport/environmental legislation.

You will also be required to call upon the assistance of appropriate staff and 3rd party suppliersto ensure the downtime of company HGV's (and Plant) is minimised and be responsible for ensuring vehicle issues are rectified.


You will report directly to the company director, options for cost effective running of the workshop/vehicles, and reporting potential problems that may arise in the future.


This is a hands-on job, you will be required to react quickly to driver reported issues with HGV's, and have the experience and foresight to action preventative maintenance.

You will be expected to have experience in fixing/replacing items such as; Bearings,Pneumatic/Hydraulic Components, Springs, Brakes and Pads.

Main Duties:

  • Plan And Carry Out Preventative Maintenance And Regular Servicing (6Weekly Checks) Of 18T32T Skip Lorries.
  • React Quickly And Efficiently To Vehicle Faults/Defects/Downtime.
  • Repairing/Replacing Parts As And When Necessary In Line With Company And Legislative Requirements.
  • Clean, Prepare And Inspect Vehicles Prior To MOT.
  • Road Test Vehicles After Maintenance And MOT Work Has Been Completed.
  • Help Maintain Drivers Daily Walk Round Checks System.
  • Maintain An Effective Relationship With External Component And Maintenance Suppliers.
You will be Physically Fit And Active In Order To Cope With The Demands Of The Role.


You will have 4+ years as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Engineer / Fleet Maintenance Technician and currently be engaged in a HGV workshop.


You have proven yourself in being able to work on your own initiative, with the willingness to resolve complex issues.

You should have excellent planning skills and be able to comfortably organise your own workload to ensure the fleet is kept running safely.

Strong verbal communication skills are essential, and you will be extremely committed having shown success/stability in previous roles.


You will have kept yourself up to date with HGV / HGV component legal requirements and be able to complete and file paperwork to a high standard.

I.T. skills are required; We are moving onto a Tablet based system for reporting defects/walkround checks. Exposure to I.T. / MS Office and ability to use mobile phone apps would be a bare minimum expectation.

SKILLS / EXPERIENCE

  • C&G/NVQ L3 Heavy Vehicle Mechanicsor equivalent (essential).
  • 5 years+experiencein working on HGV's (essential).
  • Experience With Forklift/Plant Maintenance & Servicing (preferred).
  • Knowledge of IVECO/FORD HGV engines/trucks (preferred).
  • HGV Driving License (Advantageous).
  • Knowledge of Cablelift / Multilift Equipment (Advantageous).
  • Workshop Supervisor Experience (Advantageous).
  • Fabrication/WeldingExperience/Qualification (Advantageous).
  • H&S Experience / Qualification (Advantageous).
  • Knowledge Of Auto Electrics (Advantageous).
