We are thrilled to offer an outstanding opportunity for a **Head of Data Science and Engineering** to become a key leader in our senior team. Join our growing Data team that consists of 6 teams with about 30 data specialists covering various data activities. As the **Head of Data Science and Engineering**, your role will be pivotal in empowering TPR's transformation into a data-driven regulator.

Our vision for Data, Digital, and Technology focuses on driving innovation in pensions and regulatory effectiveness. By leveraging digital, data, and technology, we aim to revolutionize pension regulation, making it more efficient, secure, transparent, and customer-centric. The Data Team holds the reins of the data estate and is tasked with defining and implementing the organization's data strategy. We aim to enhance TPR's data capabilities by ensuring effective use of high-quality data, considering it as a strategic business asset. We are **data-enabled**, collaborating with various teams to identify how data can best serve the organization and ultimately benefit savers.

TPR has gone through significant technological and business transformations, including a complete shift to Microsoft Azure. We've set up an Azure data platform and engineering capability. To fully harness the power of our data, we are seeking a skilled and passionate Data Science and Engineering leader to work alongside the Director of Data in driving innovation and advancing our data capabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Strategic direction: Develop and implement the strategic direction for data science and data engineering. Collaborate with colleagues to incorporate their input for further advancement.
  • Leadership: Lead and nurture Data Science and Engineering teams, providing coaching and mentorship to equip them with the necessary skills and resources for cross-platform work.
  • Stakeholder management: Engage with business users and product owners to underline the importance of Data Engineering and Data Science applications, driving positive changes in our approaches and methodologies. Foster relationships across public and private sectors to ensure seamless data flow in and out of the organization.
  • Innovation: Focus on realizing efficiencies within TPR, including automation. Stay updated on evolving data and technology trends along with your team.
  • Operations and planning: Take charge of short to medium-term planning and supervise operational processes in your domain, implementing monitoring and alerting mechanisms to ensure service reliability.
Essential and desirable criteria
  • **Demonstrable expertise** in the overall data landscape, technological evolution, and trends to position TPR's Data Science and Engineering at the forefront of industry changes.
  • Thorough knowledge and leadership in data science, data exploitation, and data engineering.
  • Proficient stakeholder management skills to collaborate effectively with business data owners and stakeholders, aligning data use with business objectives and providing strategic guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate beyond organizational boundaries.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and influencing skills, adept at communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, advocating for the team internally and externally.
  • Deep understanding of fostering discussions within multidisciplinary teams with diverse perspectives.
  • Extensive experience with Azure data platforms and leading teams working on these technologies.
