Job Summary

An exciting opportunity is available as a Macmillan Clinical Psychologist with the Northern Cancer Service at Royal Devon University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (RDUH). This role, supported and funded by Macmillan, is part of an 18-month pilot project aimed at scoping the need and developing a pathway for psychological support throughout the cancer journey of individuals. The main goal is to integrate psychological support within the cancer service and ensure long-term funding. The post-holder will collaborate with patients and team members to evaluate the service.

The successful candidate will receive supervision from the Lead Clinical Psychologist and report to the CM/Lead Cancer Nurse. There is a network of Psychologists at local and national levels within Health and Cancer services, providing opportunities for support and active participation. Additionally, close collaboration with Macmillan is a key aspect.

The organization has connections with Exeter University, offering an established Clinical Psychology training course and opportunities for trainee clinical psychologist placements.

The position can be based at either the Eastern or the Northern site, involving a mix of remote and on-site work.

The recruitment for a Clinical Psychologist position within the Northern Cancer Service is underway.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Assessing the need for psychological input across cancer services in the Northern service.
  • Providing personalized psychology assessments and therapy.
  • Collaborating with the clinical team to address psychological aspects of patient care.
  • Conducting a comprehensive service evaluation and reporting on outcomes, identifying areas for improvement and contributing to future business cases.

The post holder will enhance the Psychology Service to complement the existing counseling service at North Devon District Hospital.

Collaboration with another Psychologist based in Exeter is also part of the role.

Working Pattern: The role requires 30 hours per week, with the post holder stationed in Exeter or Barnstaple. Flexibility in working arrangements is offered, including job sharing, part-time options, and remote work, tailored to benefit patients, the organization, and the individual.

Fixed-Term Contract: 18 months. NHS employees can consider this post as a secondment opportunity.
