An exciting opportunity has arisen within Technology Services for the recruitment of a Head of Infrastructure Service.


This is a new role that will be crucial in shaping how we provide robust, scalable and secure infrastructure services to support the wider Trust now and in the future.

The Head of Infrastructure Services will have operational responsibility for the development, maintenance and improvement of all infrastructure functions including telecommunications, networking, server and cloud capabilities.

The post holder will need to be an experienced technical leader who is responsible for all technology infrastructure and the day to day operations.


This role will lead and manage a team of approximately 40 technology specialists and will provide expert advice, strong leadership and clear direction to the teams and individuals they manage.

They will provide day to day line management as well as strategy and guidance in line with industry best practice and Trust policy.

They will lead the team to ensure that infrastructure service are designed and managed to provide maximum uptime, capacity and cost efficiency.


  • This role will lead and manage a team of approximately 40 technology specialists and will provide expert advice, strong leadership and clear direction to the teams and individuals they manage.
  • Accountable for the development and implementation of an Infrastructure Services strategy and vision which is aligned to both the wider DT&i strategy and the digital strategy for the Trust
  • Act as the lead authority on all matters concerning infrastructure functions and the delivery of critical and noncritical services to the Trust
  • Responsible for long term planning of staff development objectives to support a continual technology retraining and skills refresh programme, to support the long term technical and knowledge objectives of the IT Department
  • Accountable for the pay and nonpay budgets for the Infrastructure teams.
  • Accountable for the departmental third party vendor budgets including the renegotiating of business critical, multimillion pound contracts.
  • Accountable for budgets transitioning into operations from projects and programmes
  • Act as an authorising signatory for capital and revenue budgets within limits agreed with the Team.

  • Accountable for the development and implementation of an Infrastructure Services strategy and vision which is aligned to both the wider DT&istrategy and the digital strategy for the Trust
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of a cloud services strategy and visions for the Trust
  • Accountable for the development and implementation of all Infrastructure Services functions for GSTT IT
  • Accountable for analysing all infrastructure strategies with a view to ensure a culture of continuous improvement
  • Responsible for ensuring the technical capabilities of the teams are aligned to new and emerging technologies
  • Ensure the coherent and effective management of the processes, systems and people required to design, develop, deliver and improve infrastructure services to meet the Trust's needs now and in the future
  • The delivery, implementation and maintenance of infrastructure roadmaps including networking, telecommunications, technical spaces, and hardware
  • The ownership and management of performance of systems and services in terms of their contribution to service performance
  • Accountable for the setting and analysis of performance metrics and targets for Infrastructure Services and how that information is presented to the wider Trust
  • Accountability for the management and delivery of purchased or managed services
  • Identify and remove system, process, and resource bottlenecks that pose significant constraints to our ability to deliver services and meet continuous improvement plans and targets
  • Accountable for all continuous improvement activity including delivery, resources, associated budget, outcome and benefits
  • Ensure clear communication channels are implemented and maintained throughout the service lifecycle including Technology Services, Programmes & Projects, Architecture and Engagement
  • Ensure complex and technical information is analysed and presented in a clear way for relevant audiences
  • Recruit, lead, motivate, develop and manage the performance of direct reports, and wider team, building a high calibre team with the skills and capabilities to deliver the required results
