Are you an experienced adult Mental Health Practitioner/Registered Mental Health Nurse/Registered Social Worker?

Do you want to work for an outstanding NHS Trust?

You will support the Team Leader in providing a high quality service to meet the needs of people in acute phases of mental illness, and their carers.

To ensure the continued efficient and effective running of the team, providing leadership and supervision within the staff group as appropriate.

You will undertake rapid assessments of people with mental health problems in acute crisis and where appropriate as an alternative to in-patient admission. Also to provide routine and urgent Mental Health Services in the District General Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will:

have relevant qualification and professional registration work within a Multi-Disciplinary evidenced based Mental Health Liaison model focus on early identification and rapid response of Service Users presenting in A&E or admitted to hospital provide on-going training to general hospital staff with regards to the recognition and treatment of mental health problem work closely with the Acute Trusts across a range of services to ensure early identification of mental health issues have excellent assessment and communication skills be able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Job responsibilities

To support the Team Leader\MHLT Manager in maintaining effective inter-team and inter-agency communicationTo provide effective liaison/communication relating to referral andexpedition and to support the early identification of mental health issues for patients using the hospital A&E or inpatient servicesMaintain effective joint working with Sector CMHTs, Older Peoples Community, other community based teams according to local circumstancesEnsure that all relevant information regarding client care is communicated to the appropriate persons team, bringing to the Team Leaders attention issues of concern regarding practice or workloadEnsure effective communications with relatives, visitors, voluntaryorganisations and the general public, thus encouraging participation in Care delivery. To respond sensitively, to the needs of relatives and carers, often in a highly emotive settingTo liaise with other professionals in relation to client care, activelyparticipating in care planning and review meetings, and attendingcase conferences as advise others as to the role and practices of the MHLT and deliver basic Mental Health training to non mental health professionals

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

RMN or Dip / BSc (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing

Desirable

Preceptorship and Mentorship. / BSc (Hons) Specialist Community Nursing Practice (Mental Health) or similar training. Completed AMHP training Practice Teacher Award Child protection

Experience

Essential

Post registration experience in acute and community areas for younger or older adults. Evidence of continuing professional development.

Desirable

Experience in working with acute mental health problems in community setting or CATT or MHLT.

Skills

Essential

Ability to communicate effectively within a multiprofessional team. Confidence to work autonomously in the community and use own initiative, and make decisions in complex situations. Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic or reassuring skills are required. Ability to deal with distressing circumstances and challenging behaviour. Experience of risk assessment in an acute / community setting. Awareness of Child and safeguarding process and ability to identify and act on safeguarding concerns. Knowledge of legislation related to mental health and social care ( Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, National Service Framework, National Dementia Strategy, Care Programme Approach etc) Ability to work well in a team setting. Ability to cope with an unpredictable work pattern and frequent interruptions Understanding of legal framework and social factors involved in community care. Supervision skills.

Desirable

Specific clinical/practice skills applicable in an acute community setting brief therapy, cognitive therapy, and anxiety management.
