This role involves a mix of working on-site at our Hemel Hempstead Production site and visiting third-party sites to collect and analyze crucial data as needed. Travel may be required up to 50% of the time.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Physics or Chemistry and possess expertise in Trace Detection within Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, or high-yield Explosives.

This position offers a great chance to be part of an R&D team contributing scientific knowledge and assistance focused on the present and future state of our leading trace detection product crucial for identifying harmful substances such as chemicals, explosives, and narcotics.

Responsibilities include planning and conducting experiments, data analysis, and instrument/experimental design. Applicants must have a hands-on lab experience at the PhD level.

You will collaborate closely with the scientific community within Smiths Detection, as well as with engineering and product manufacturing departments. Due to project sensitivity and security clearance requirements, applications are accepted from candidates who have resided and worked in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
