This is a development role, designed to support the post holder attain the skills and attributes of an Assistant Finance business partner.

Progression from a band 4 to a band 5 will be supported by Finance Business partner in accordance with the department's training policy and appropriate competency framework.

Progression will be achieved through a combination of formal qualifications, technical competencies and the development of key behavioural skills.

  • To provide, support to the Finance Business Partner in the provision of highquality financial management services. They will be responsible for the accuracy and timely production of financial information for their Directorate. This will require proactively liaising with operational budget managers, clinicians and consultants to provide financial advice and information consistent with local accounting policies and Standing Financial Instructions.
  • To develop Management Accounting systems and procedures to ensure optimal use of resources within the organisation in service of patient care.
  • To support the Finance Business Partner in the production of Directorate Financial Plans by providing financial information. This will include the identification of cost pressures, service developments and cost improvement schemes.
  • The postholder must have a willingness to progress beyond the confines or a transactional accountant to become an Assistant Business Partner. This will involve understanding the needs of the service and developing an ability to provide relevant financial support.
  • To maintain existing skills and undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post as agreed with the line manger as part of the personal development planning process.
  • To achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales.
  • To contribute positively to the effectiveness and efficiency of the teams in which the person works. This includes training and developing staff to meet business plan objectives and personal/ professional needs.
  • To undertake any other duties at the request of the line manager which are commensurate with the role, including project work, internal job rotation and absence cover.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all Trust information, following security procedures including individual passwords, referring to the Trust's Confidentiality policy where appropriate.
