You'll be calculating the Council Tax, and drafting our annual revenue budget for approval by Council.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and positive individual to work as Finance Officer in the part of our team responsible for the administration of the Collection Fund. The Collection Fund is a statutory account that manages the financial impacts of the Business Rates and the Council Tax collected in the city.

It is a critical part of any local authority and currently provides over 90% of the net revenue funding for the Council.

  • We would welcome a collaborative thinker, excellent communicator and someone that is keen to develop skills across a broad section of the service. You should be able to demonstrate a clear attention to detail, have an inquisitive mind, be a problem solver and balance with a commitment to effective service delivery.
  • We would welcome a person that is full AAT / part qualified CCAB or has other relevant technical qualification or can demonstrate relevant equivalent experience.
  • We currently operate a hybrid working pattern

    For this role you will need a range of skills and experience, and including:
    • The ability to extract, analyse and reconcile
    • The ability to identify and analyse variances and investigate to ensure the robust financial position of Council is maintained.
    • To be able to respond to queries from a range of sources (senior management, members of the public, FOIs, auditors) with clarity, accuracy, and professionalism/relevance.
    • Assisting the main Collection Fund lead with analysis of elements of the service to assist with queries and budgeting.
    • The ability to challenge existing procedures to ensure that they stay up to date, relevant and fit for purpose.
    • The ability to prioritise their workload
    • Experience of dealing with internal & external customers via all available communication channels and,
    • Educated to GCSE grade 4 and above (including Maths and English) or equivalent level of experiential learning
