General Assistant

The Livermead House Hotel in Torquay is looking for a General Assistant/porter with varied duties across daytime and may include evenings sometimes.

The hours vary across the year, depending on the occupancy of the hotel and events taking place. There may be split shifts.


You will support the Front of House team in the effective operations of service at the Livermead House Hotel to ensure customer satisfaction is maintained with an exceptional standard of delivery and professionalism.


This role is one of the most important within the hotel as you will be interacting with our valued guests constantly throughout the day.

Therefore, a friendly and positive outgoing nature is required with knowledge of the local area as you will often have to advise guests of local attractions.


The role will include serving refreshments and bar snacks, helping setting up function rooms, clearing rooms after events and helping with luggage when guests arrive ( this is not the primary function of the role).


Relief Night porter
This role includes some relief night porter cover for holidays or unplanned absences.

The Relief night porter will cover planned and unplanned absences of the night porter team of 1 full time role, covered by 2 people.

The number of nights requiring cover in the year depends on business need.

Hours will include weekends and some Public holidays, including Christmas and New year, where business needs require.


Duties will include welcoming guests, maintaining security of the premises, general cleaning and tidying of the public areas, serving drinks where necessary after bar staff have left.

Setting up of function rooms will also be required plus other duties required by the management.

Full training will be given but previous experience in a similar role would be useful.
