Dorchester, Dorset, United Kingdom Dorset Council Full time

About The Role:

Since forming as Dorset Council 5 years ago, we've been transforming the way we deliver services to residents, putting them at the heart of decision making and becoming a more responsive and customer focused council.

This is a really exciting time to be joining Dorset Council. We have a wide range of activity underway to further improve the customer experience.

We are doing this by making our services more accessible, simplifying our systems, joining up common processes as well as aligning the right technology, digital platforms and customer channels.

We are looking for a Senior Communications Officer to join our busy Internal Communications team and support our colleagues leading transformation projects to communicate and engage with key stakeholders from across the council.

As our internal communications specialist for business change and transformation, you will be responsible for developing and implementing effective communication strategies to inform and engage employees.

Using your exceptional relationship management skills you will work closely with our senior leaders, project managers, and other stakeholders to understand the objectives, scope, and impact for most of our specific transformation and change projects.

You'll use this understanding to develop stakeholder engagement and communication plans and to craft clear and consistent messages that align with the council's vision and values.

As an experienced internal communications professional, you'll know how to make the best use of corporate communications channels.

You will be an expert at leveraging our various communication channels and tools, such as newsletters, intranet, webinars, surveys, and events, to ensure timely and relevant communication with different audiences.

You will know your work has been successful because you will have an excellent grip on the effectiveness of our communication activities through the various success measures you have established.

And because you are always looking for ways to learn and improve, you'll use this insight to make recommendations for how we can do things better in the future.

You'll also seek to find ways to share your internal communications skills and knowledge to support project managers and other comms professionals across the organisation to deliver individual change and transformation programmes.

This will range from giving advice on how to communicate and engage with audiences, through to developing change communications resources that colleagues can use on their own to communicate and engage with project stakeholders and the wider organisation.

Working closely with colleagues from HR, organisation development and our change teams, you will work together to develop a consistent approach to change management and support a positive change culture by fostering employee involvement and feedback.

Further Information:

This role is a fixed term contract until 31 March 2025. There is the possibility that this role could be extended beyond this date.

This post requires significant travel. You must have a vehicle (or transport we deem suitable) available for use as needed.

What's in it for you:

We are a small, but high performing team within the council.

By joining our Internal Communications Team, you will have the opportunity to use your creativity, skills and experience to make a positive impact on our culture, values and vision.

You will also enjoy a supportive and flexible work environment that fosters your professional growth and development.

Our Internal Communications Team sits within our wider Communications and Engagement Department; an award-winning team who have an exceptional reputation across the council.

As part of the wider comms team, you'll benefit from working with a group of exceptional communications professionals to bounce ideas off and learn from.
