Job Description:

Overview

The Team Leader is responsible for managing a production areas performance managing a team of operators.


The role will also involve working closely alongside Engineering, Manufacturing Management, Quality and Equipment Maintenance so strong communication skills are essential.


Main Accountabilities:
There are several accountabilities that will be assigned to this role and they include:
People Management

The Team Leader will be expected to be fully responsible and accountable for:

  • Skills Matrix Management of their whole team, this will involve analysis of any skills gaps that exist and the creation of a training plan to close the gaps with minimum interruption to output.
  • Performance Management which will involve managing their team using the disciplinary processes, there will be an expectation that performance will be monitored on an individual basis and the use of Performance Action Plans (PAPs) will be used when necessary.
  • Absence Management which will involve monitoring the number of absences of each member of the team and carrying out disciplinary action in line with the business' absence policy.
  • As part of Performance Management the Team Leader is required to create each individual's Personal Development Review (PDR), this will be then reviewed and maintained throughout the year against the individual's performance on the minimum of a quarterly basis.
Manufacturing Output


The Team Leader will be responsible and accountable for attending and contributing to the Master Production Schedule (MPS) meetings held on a weekly basis with the Production Planning team.

As part of these meetings it will be expected that you provide a 12 week view of manufacturing capacity and capability within your production area and then provide commitment to completing the plan that is agreed during this meeting.


The completion of this plan will involve:

  • Constraint management with regards to equipment downtime, absence management and ensuring the provision of multi-skilled operators. This will involve managing your team to manufacture products within the standard times for each product, to achieve the MPS target for the week.
  • Understanding medium to longer term constraints and then planning to overcome them whilst managing prioritisation of all issues within the production area.
  • Managing the production team to work to the latest Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Running various Key Performance Indicator (KPIs) reports and then managing the production area to ensure that these KPIs are maintained within the targets defined.


Team Leaders will also be expected to assist in equipment planning for their production area alongside Manufacturing Management, this will contribute towards the company's Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) process.

Housekeeping

The Team Leaders role will be responsible and accountable for:

  • Maintaining a clean, clear and safe working production area.
  • Enforcing TPM schedules alongside Technicians.
  • Implementing various housekeeping initiatives.
  • Carrying out audits of the production area and maintaining an action list for the resolution of any issues that arise from the audit.
Skills, Learning and Training

The Team Leaders role will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining their teams Skills Matrices throughout the year.
  • Monitoring the number of Single Points of Failure (SPOFs) within their team and managing the reduction of these.
  • Highlighting the training that needs to take place in the team to allow maximum skills coverage and creating a training plan so that this takes place and is managed according to the business' training procedure.
Health and Safety

The Team Leaders role will be responsible for:

  • The creation of new Risk and COSHH assessments using our current SHELT database as and when there is a requirement to do so. This role will also be responsible for a number of assessments within their production area ensuring that they are updated and maintained in line with review dates or as tasks change.
  • There will be responsibility to adhere to company's SHELT guidelines by setting an example, as well as being accountable for enforcing the SHELT guidelines within their team.
