Job Purpose
  • The Community Associate must have a passion for social inclusion and a track record in facilitating and supporting community engagement with a commitment to inclusivity, relevance, and environmental responsibilities.
  • Support the delivery of participatory projects from design to delivery, support fundraising, manage and develop strategic relationships with relevant external agencies, manage freelance staff and practitioners in achieving project objectives, encourage participants to find creative progression routes, and establish pathways for participants and young people.
Key Duties
  • Manage relationships and partnerships across the local community to coordinate and deliver a programme of creative work.
  • Conceive and deliver innovative community projects with and for local communities and lead the production and facilitation of these projects, including the Actors Company, Community Choir, tours, Beyond The Stage programmes, and festival activities.
  • Work with community and producing partners to create work with a local focus relevant to our communities and the organisation's remit, KPIs, and strategy.
  • Ensure accurate project and production budgets, cash flows, and financial information management.
  • Raise funding for new ideas, community engagement initiatives, and productions, keeping abreast of funding and producing opportunities across the region and beyond.
  • Manage show on sales and liaise with marketing and press on the creation of show assets, season launches, and show campaigns.

Essential Skills

Experience

  • Experience in managing community projects within an arts organisation
  • Experience in leading workshops, talks, tours and relevant community-associated events
  • Experience in community theatre producing
  • Contractual preparation and negotiation
  • Experience in applying for and managing publicly or trust-funded projects
  • Evidenced and practical relationships with venues, companies, agencies, and organisations within the subsidised sector
  • Commitment to regional theatre artists' audiences

Knowledge/Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the UK regional theatre sector and current trends
  • Familiarity with funding structures and policies
  • A good understanding of the processes required to develop new work
  • An appreciation of the technical aspects of theatre production
  • Appreciation of audience development practices
  • A strong commitment to representation and inclusion

Skills/Abilities

  • A strong track record of being able to manage a varied workload and deliver work under pressure and an ability to work using initiative
  • Proven ability to sustain positive internal and external relationships over a significant period
  • Excellent project management skills
  • An ability to generate creative ideas
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Attention to detail, highly organised, good prioritising skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving
  • IT literate (e.g., Word, Excel, databases, Artifax, Tessitura)
Desirable Skills

Experience

  • Working with UK Theatre, Musicians Union, Equity, and other industry-specific union agreements
  • Experience working in a producing theatre, arts centre, or touring company
  • Working knowledge of the commissions process and experience in negotiating contracts
  • An interest in education, youth theatre and artist development work
  • Preparing evaluation reports for funders
  • Donor or investor cultivation
  • PR and marketing liaison in support of asset creation and promotional campaigns

Knowledge/Qualifications

  • Understanding of theatre management
  • Networking, marketing, and social media campaigns
  • Experience in employing a research-based approach to your work
