The University of Southampton is a world-leading, research-intensive university, ranked in the global top 100 and a founding member of the Russell Group. We are proud of our strong educational offering, award winning research and global reputation for innovation and enterprise.

We have two exciting opportunities to join the senior team of our Faculty Operating Service (FOS). Partnering with the Dean of Faculty and reporting to the Director of Faculty Operations you will provide strategic, high level operational support, ensuring delivery of the Faculty and University strategy. Collaborative working, with multiple stakeholders, will be critical to success.

The positions available are within the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Applications welcome for one or both vacancies.

The Faculty of Medicine based at the University Hospital Southampton, is a national leader in medical education, investing in multi-disciplinary research teams and creating opportunities for external collaborations.

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities draws together a range of disciplines into two high-performing schools located across the cities of Southampton and Winchester. The Faculty is globally recognised for its sector-leading research, education, knowledge exchange and enterprise.

About you

You will have a proven track record of leading teams and taking responsibility for a significant function within an organisation. As an accomplished senior management, ideally in higher education, you'll combine experience of strategic planning, operational effectiveness and project management with excellent communication and collaborative working. You'll be an innovator, developing new ideas and finding creative solutions to operational issues.

What we can offer you

Working at the University of Southampton provides a wide range of benefits in addition to competitive rates of pay. Benefits include pension scheme membership; a generous annual leave allowance (supplemented by University closure days and public holidays) and excellent family leave arrangements (including maternity, paternity, adoption and parental leave). As a university we aim to create an environment where everyone can thrive and fosters a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity. We can only meet our objectives if we are reflective of society, so we are passionate about creating a working environment in which you are free to bring your whole self to work. We encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, people who identify as LGBTQ+; and people with disabilities. We particularly welcome applications from candidates from working class, first generation Higher Education, the Global South and other underrepresented groups.

Committed to supporting our staff and students, we are open to a flexible working approach. We give full consideration to applicants that wish to work flexibly and those who have taken a career break.

The closing date for applications is midnight (GMT) Wednesday 25 June 2024.

Following long listing, successful candidates will be invited to an informal engagement session with the senior team. This will be via Microsoft Teams and provide a chance to ask questions of the current Associate Directors of Faculty Operations, facilitated by Mary Hurst, Director of Faculty Operations.

Interviews will be on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 July 2024.
