Job summary

The Trust's R&D Department is responsible for the governance of all research studies taking place at Cambridge University Hospitals.

The Data and AI Research Governance Coordinator is responsible for providing expert advice for a portfolio of research involving NHS clinical informatics and AI across a wide range of specialties, throughout the life course of the research project. The post holder will assist with the development of relevant governance processes and ensure that the Trust is fully compliant with the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research, UK GDPR and Data Protection Act and any other applicable legislation, framework or national and international guidance.

In addition the post holder will need to be organised, proactive, methodical, able to work autonomously and with a high level of initiative.

Main duties of the job

This post does not involve directly working with clinical data. The role holder will provide advice and support to researchers in all aspects of data and AI research governance, including submitting applications to the Health Research Authority and NHS ethics. Clearly communicate requirements to researchers and ensure researchers correctly complete and submit documentation to the department.

Coordinate the clinical data access committee and adjunct patient panel, providing specialist advice to researchers and colleagues in relation to the review of data and AI projects.

Monitor studies taking place at the Trust, ensuring that researchers are fully compliant with legislation, policies and guidance.

Experience of working in a clinical research governance environment (NHS, University or industry))

Knowledge

Knowledge and understanding of research governance and the processes involved in approving projects. Knowledge of the regulatory framework for research including the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research Understanding of indemnity and insurance issues in research

Desirable

Understanding of the ethical issues in AI and data driven research Knowledge of relevant law and legislation including UK GDPR, the Common Law Duty of Confidentiality, Medical Devices Regulations An understanding of issues relating to intellectual property and ensuring Fair Value for the NHS related to data driven research Basic understanding of IT security standards in the NHS Knowledge of commercial organisations and external agencies within research Knowledge and understanding of research funding streams and award bodies
