A busy family run nursery and garden centre in the heart of the village of Sellindge in Kent. Growing and selling a huge variety of plants and vegetables for the general public.

We are a small, friendly, hard-working team looking for a Garden Centre Apprentice to join the team. The applicant will always have help and full support.

Duties include:

  • Maintain plant health and participate in annual production cycle
  • Plant husbandry tasks
  • Large scale potting
  • Identifying pests and diseases
  • Maintain stock records
  • Loading customer vehicles and unloading goods in
  • Keeping customer and production areas tidy
  • Maintaining and keeping glasshouse & outside standing down areas
  • Irrigation repairs and maintenance
  • Identifying, picking and packing plants for orders
  • Using the tray filling machine
  • Watering
  • Weeding
  • Cutting back
  • Hand and machine potting
  • Propagation of seeds
  • Growing on of vegetable plants, annuals and perennials.
  • Customer service and occasional working on the till
  • Ensure stock is produced to the highest of standards

Desired qualifications

  • GCSE or equivalent English and maths 94/A-C or equivalent

Training

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Horticulture and Landscape Operative Apprenticeship.
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
  • You will also need to achieve Level 3 award in Emergency First Aid at Work and Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides Guidance or Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides before undertaking the End Point Assessment.

Future prospects
Successful completion of the apprenticeship could lead to employment.

Working in all weather, cold in the winter and hot in the summer.
