Birmingham


As a Barclays Payments Lawyer, you will be part of a Legal team that supports all areas of Barclays, covering corporate and personal banking payments, FX, schemes and new partnerships and technology, such as blockchain.

You will join a team that, also covers the implementation of new payments regulation and leads on the legal assitsance for the development of our Open Banking infrastructure, in addition to card payments "in" (acceptance and processing) and "out" (issuing and virtual commercial payment solutions).

What will you be doing?

  • Assisting Barclays Payments business lines and key payments product areas across the Barclays franchise
  • Helping with the preparation, review and updates of standard form documentation for payments products, with a particular focus on acquiring, gateway and commercial issuing
  • Providing advice and assistance with requests for proposals for payments products
  • Helping with significant commercial arrangements with payments schemes, strategic business and technology partners
  • Supporting product development based on existing payments capabilities and leveraging innovation in payments, including open banking
  • Delivering training to the business and infrastructure functions
  • Assisting the Barclays Group General Counsel in identifying and managing legal and regulatory risk across the Barclays Payments businesses

What we're looking for:

  • Qualified lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister, Attorney or equivalent), with some PQE experience
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: financial services, payments, software/fintech, commercial contracts and e-commerce
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with an ability to work cross functionally in a collegiate manner

  • Being commercially astute but aware of regulatory and conduct issues

Where will you be working?
Barclays Snowhill is at the heart of the professional district and commands a workforce of around 1000. With great transport links to Birmingham Grand Central and Snowhill train stations as well as the local metro. Our office has a dedicated staff coffee shop and deli and break out areas for staff. There is also a presentation theatre for client and staff events. Our office boasts a great working environment as well as opportunities to network across the city.
