Job Summary:


Working under the direct supervision of the Practice Nurse's and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care.


Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care or equivalent experience
  • Working knowledge of physical or mental health issues including mental health legislation, medication management
  • Standard IT skills
  • Committed to undertake the Care Certificate course within the first 12 weeks of commencing

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • New patient health checks
  • ECG recording
  • Phlebotomy
  • B12's, influenza, shingles, and pneumonia injection (training can be provided)
  • Chaperoning duties
  • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses
  • Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment.
  • Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring, and recording
  • Surgical equipment and vaccine restocking and stock rotation
  • Clearing and restocking consulting rooms
  • Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
  • Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients' health and wellbeing
  • Helping to raise awareness of health and wellbeing and how it can be promoted.
  • Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and wellbeing.
  • Assist with 6 8 week checks of babies.
  • Disposal of clinical waste in the external bin provided.
  • Conduct monthly audits of Infection Control, Health & Safety and Fire Safety in liaison with the Practice nurses/Practice Manager.
  • Plus, any reasonable task allocated by the practice nurses/Practice Manager
