Job description


The QA Officer supports academic staff and professional support colleagues with administrative and logístical queries relating to quality assurance (QA).

The College has various reviews and reporting requirements which enable it to remain accountable to the Office for Students; the purpose of this role is to assist the Faculty in setting up responses to College deadlines and driving forward efficiency changes, in liaison with the QA Manager and other QA staff within the Faculty.


The role is based within the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine (FoLSM), although may have contact with QA networks and staff across the College.


With support to develop a working knowledge of academic regulations and QA processes, the QA Officer will be a valued member of the team with a keen eye for accuracy and detail.

Key responsibilities

  • Support administrative procedures regarding the quality assurance of all programmes within the Faculty
  • Assist with the development of efficient processes and systems to accurately record and maintain quality assurance activities
  • Assist with the preparation of papers for the Faculty quality committees and scheduling of dates on an annual cycle
  • Ensure that College and Faculty deadlines are met when working with colleagues on projects and reviews
  • Have the ability to comprehend and digest complex or specialist information
  • Liaise with academic and professional support colleagues and respond directly to queries under direction from the line manager
  • Take responsibility for ensuring that work is carried out in a professional and timely manner, with appropriate confidentiality and sensitivity. Maintain an up to date knowledge of data protection requirements

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

  • A degree or equivalent qualification
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to draft overview summary documents
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and the ability to learn new software as required
  • Methodical, detail orientated ad flexible in approach to work, maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders in a professional and assured manner
  • Proactive with the ability to work independently as well as delivering within a team
  • Comfortable with adapting to change and driving own professional development
  • Commitment to equality and diversity in the workplace
  • Willingness to engage with sector discussions around quality assurance in Higher Education
Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working in a quality assurance or regulatory environment
  • Experience of working in higher education
Further information

This role will be hybrid working, with some time required on campus. The remainder may be worked remotely or on campus.
